Diversity

Through an Honors College course I took last semester I was able to work each week one-on-one with a student in Greensboro, AL every week in reading tutoring. I had the opportunity to video chat with the students who were part of a school in an area of low SES and scarce resources for proper education. Working with the students through this class was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I thoroughly enjoyed the experiences I had and the challenges I was exposed to. Attached is the final reflection of the experiences I had.

I also had the opportunity through the Honors College this semester to complete a service learning project for the students at the alternative school in Opelika, AL. The site I was building a product for is a garden in Opelika called OGrows. This organization provides students at Opelika Learning Center with an outdoor garden and greenhouse to learn everyday life skills and further character development in environments outside of the classroom. I was instructed to design a product
that would not only be developmentally appropriate for the students who rotate in the garden but that it must also be functional.

Attached is the reflection about this project and photos of the finished product delivered to the garden.
